CMS Launches Quality and Certification Oversight Reports Website--Wealth of Provider-type Survey & Cert Data Now Available on Demand

Posted: August 28, 2017

On August 22, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced a new initiative designed to increase transparency by making the results of survey and certification activity over the last 10 years available online. While some of this data was previously available via the CMS Survey and Certification Providing Data Quickly (S&C PDQ) System, the functionality and ease of access to the information was limited. CMS has removed requirements for user accounts to access the data and created a new Quality and Certification Oversight Reports (QCOR) website, now available HERE.

Following are some of the data reports that are now available on the QCOR site, which can be sorted by time interval, provider characteristics, accrediting entity, location and deficiency level/tag:

HOSPICE  HOME HEALTH
Provider Reports
     Active Provider and Supplier Counts
     New Provider and Supplier Counts
     Terminated Provider Counts
Survey Reports
     Overdue Recertification Surveys
     Survey Activity Report
Deficiency Reports
     Deficiency Count
     Average Number of Deficiencies
     Citation Frequency

The National Association for Home Care & Hospice (NAHC) recommends that all home health and hospice providers and other stakeholders take a moment to familiarize themselves with the breadth of information that is now available on the new site as it provides significant insight into survey and certification issues, including changes within provider types and citation frequencies.

Launch of the QCOR site was announced via a Survey and Certification Memorandum to State Survey Agency Directors available HERE.

HPCAR Members Enjoy NAHC Rate On 6-Part Emergency Preparedness Recorded Webinars

Posted: August 23, 2017

Beginning in November 2017, Medicare and Medicaid providers — including home health and hospice — must meet a host of new requirements designed to ensure that they have the necessary planning in place to provide safe care for their patients, regardless of what type of emergency may occur. During June 2017, the National Association for Home Care & Hospice (NAHC), RBC Limited, and participating members of NAHC’s Forum of State Associations (FSA) sponsored a highly-acclaimed six-part webinar series Emergency Prepared- ness Requirements for Medicare and Medicaid-Participating Home Health and Hospice Providers. While this series may have concluded, this valuable content is still accessible via recording at a deeply discount- ed rate of $399 for all members of NAHC and participating state associations. Non-members may also subscribe to the series for $599. These webinars are chock full of information that will be critical for any home health or hospice agency involved in the Medicare and Medicaid programs. Registration provides access to the recordings, slides and other valuable materials to any staff member of a registered entity to access as frequently as is needed to digest this valuable content. Those who attend this webinar series will dramatically increase their knowledge and understanding of the new federal emergency preparedness requirements that are part of these new home health and hospice Conditions of Participation (CoP). In addition, attendees will learn how to apply the federal requirements for disaster prepared- ness in their home health or hospice agencies. Home health and hospice providers must act soon to ensure compliance in a timely fashion.

Part 1: Overview of the Regulations
Part 2: Starting the Plan
Part 3: Building the Plan
Part 4: Development of Policies and Procedures
Part 5: Communication
Part 6: Testing and Training

Program Faculty: The faculty presenter for the webinar series is Barbara B. Citarella, RN, BSN, MS, CHCE, CSH-V (Certified in Homeland Security), who is uniquely qualified to educate on this important topic. Ms. Citarella is the founder of RBC Limited Healthcare and Management Consultants. Barbara and her team of expert consul- tants have made the company a national leader in the home health and hospice industry in addition to disaster planning. For more information about Barbara’s unparalleled qualifications, please go here. CEs: One nursing credit hour will be offered for each of the six parts of this webinar series, for a maximum of six. (This activity has been submitted to the Maryland Nurses Association for approval to award contact hours. The Maryland Nurses Association is accredited as an approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.)

HPCAR members pay $399 for the series...click here for more information and to register (login required).

Non-members pay $599. (If your hospice has not previously ordered anything from NAHC, you will need to register in the system first, and then can purchase the web series.)....click here for more information and to register.
